That’s the million-dollar question currently echoing off the walls of the Internet as we approach Avengers: Infinity War, as it’s nigh on certain that Joe and Anthony Russo’s comic book blockbuster will kill off at least one or two major characters in order to raise the stakes.

In fact, with Thanos and his Black Order imminent, one could argue that the stakes have never been higher, and at least according to The Mary Sue, Heimdall may prove to be one of Infinity War‘s biggest casualties.

The all-seeing, all-hearing Asgardian has undoubtedly become a fixture of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since he was first introduced in 2011. He’s the guardian of the Bifrost Bridge, essentially, but we now have reason to believe that Heimdall’s days are numbered, as a piece of Infinity War merch shows Thor wielding the Bifrost Sword – an armament that’s typically in the hands of Idris Elba’s gatekeeper. Cue the speculation…

Of course, it’d be foolish to take this report as gospel, as toy manufacturers typically operate independently from most major film studios (i.e. Marvel), which is to say that industry giants like Funko and, in this case, Hasbro, often produce products on their own accord. All told, attempting to wean firm plot details from a line of toys is a dangerous game, so while Heimdall’s fate is still up for question, this rumor doesn’t exactly certify that Idris Elba’s character is on his way out.

One thing we can tell you with absolute certainty though is that Avengers: Infinity War will be with us sooner than expected – April 27th, as a matter of fact, which means those in North America needn’t worry about running into spoilers ahead of time.
