Earlier this week, a Twitter conversation between director/writer James Gunn and actor Mark Hamill sent fanboys everywhere into a frenzy – and with good reason.

It all began when an individual Tweeted at Gunn asking him to please find a role for the Star Wars actor in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Unsurprisingly, the director seemed into the idea and suggested Hamill come over to talk about it, since they live close to one another.

Things then took another interesting turn when Hamill himself joined in on the conversation, saying that he’d be happy to chat and asked Gunn to send him a private message with his contact info so that they could discuss further. Of course, he replied back to Hamill saying he would and it was at that point the exchange ended, with the two of them presumably moving their chat off Twitter.

And though nothing concrete has come from the situation since then, ET recently caught up with Hamill and asked him how things were going with Gunn and if we should expect to see him crossing paths with Star-Lord and co. in Vol. 3. Unsurprisingly, the actor played coy, saying that he wasn’t sure if anything will actually comes from this.

While that’s probably not what fans want to hear, you have to imagine that if Hamill’s indeed serious about joining the franchise, Marvel will make it happen. Perhaps not in Vol. 3, but maybe somewhere down the road. After all, The Last Jedi star has been a longtime favorite for when it comes to who folks would love to see added into the MCU, with there being a whole bunch of characters from the comics that he’d be a perfect fit for.

In fact, not too long ago he expressed interest in playing Doctor Octopus, while fans have already been speculating on who Hamill could bring to life should he join Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In other words, Marvel wouldn’t be short on roles for which they’d be able to place the actor in and we can only hope that he one day finds his way into the MCU.
