With Justice League‘s theatrical run now being behind it and the home video release imminent, we’re seeing various intriguing bits of trivia popping up online. Just recently, there was a callback to Doomsday noticed as well as some cool concept art hinting at a deleted scene involving Lex Luthor, and today, the fun continues, as Zack Snyder has now revealed that the pic actually contained a neat little Watchmen easter egg.

As you surely know, Snyder directed the 2009 adaptation of Alan Moore’s seminal graphic novel, and though it certainly didn’t please everyone, the film’s got a very devoted and loyal fanbase who’ll defend it to the death. But that’s neither here nor there, as the easter egg found in Justice League is nothing more than a clever nod to Snyder’s previous work, though it’s very likely that this is the first you’re hearing of it.

That’s because it occurs in a deleted scene that didn’t make it into the final cut. Thankfully, then, Zack’s been kind enough to hop on social media and put it out there for all to see, taking to Vero to share the photo in the gallery down below (which also includes some cool BTS shots from Justice League):

See it? Yup, that’s Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen there wearing a Tales of the Black Freighter T-Shirt, which fans will know is a classic comic book within the Watchmen universe. Though it never made it into Snyder’s adaptation, it was included in the Ultimate Cut of the movie and as such, makes for a nice little easter egg for eagle-eyed viewers to pick up on. It’s just too bad it didn’t remain in the theatrical version of Justice League.

While not a huge revelation by any means, having Barry wear a Watchmen-related shirt is still a nice nod to a film that’s quite popular amongst Snyder fans. Not to mention that it’s stuff like this that shows how deep the director’s love and appreciation of these characters and stories runs and why he’s still got so many supporters.
