Avengers: Infinity War Is Like “Three Movies Going On At Once,” Says Scarlett Johansson

Viewers may experience a bout of sensory overload coming out of Avengers: Infinity War next month.

That’s because Scarlett Johansson (AKA Black Widow) has likened it to “three movies going on at once” in the sense that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and their allies will take the fight to Thanos on three separate fronts.

So, Captain America and Black Widow buddy up with T’Challa and Okoye in Wakanda, while Marvel’s Science Bros take one last stand on the streets of New York City. Hawkeye also appears to be on his own solo mission, though we image ScarJo is actually referring to the Guardians of the Galaxy, who have forged an unlikely alliance with Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder in the depths of space.

Here’s her full comment to Entertainment Tonight:

It’s kind of like we’re three movies all at once. It’s very plot-driven and its kind of…this is a film I think that really, all of these pieces come together in a kind of complex intricate package and that’s the purpose I think of this film, to sort of bring everything together in a coherent way, and so as that’s happening it feels sort of like there are kind of like three movies going on at once, because we meet different characters in different circumstances and this one kind of greater cause brings everyone together.

Because make no mistake, despite Marvel’s early plans to release Avengers 3 and 4 as a two-part Infinity War – think of the dual finales to Harry Potter and The Hunger Games – Joe and Anthony Russo made it their mission to ensure that each film felt like its own separate beast.

Here’s how Joe Russo explained that reasoning to Fandango:

One thing that we set out from the beginning and said that we wanted to do from the beginning, was that we’d been disappointed about times we’ve sat in part one of part two films and it feels like they just took out a pair of scissors and cut the movie in half. And the first film isn’t really structured in a way where there’s a beginning, middle, and an end. It feels more set up like a first act and half of a second act for the second movie.

The Russo Brothers’ first Avengers movie, Infinity War, will be with us on April 27th, before the untitled Avengers 4 tends to unfinished business in 2019.
