Chris Pratt Teases The Guardians’ Role In Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War sees the long-awaited union of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the Guardians of the Galaxy, something fans have been dreaming of since 2014. With this team-up comes an interesting quasi-philosophical question, though: now that they’re helping the Avengers, does this mean that the Guardians are official members of the team?

This puzzler was posed to Star-Lord himself, Chris Pratt, during an interview with Empire. He revealed that, to him, Peter Quill will always be a Guardian first and foremost but, for reasons that Pratt was careful not to dig into, it could be argued that Star-Lord becomes an honorary Avenger during the movie.

“Peter’s always going to be a Guardian. I’ll let the fan decide that. I’m not sure what the right answer to that is, in case I give away too much. But it was important to us, going into this, that the Guardians have a different style. Avengers has its own tone but in a way that allows the Guardians to remain the Guardians, in terms of what they bring and what people will expect to see from them.”

What we know for sure at the moment is that the Guardians will be scattered in the film; Rocket and Groot will go off on a side mission with Thor, while Star-Lord joins Iron Man’s posse and travels to Thanos’ homeworld of Titan alongside the likes of Doctor Strange and Spider-Man. It also seems likely that the Guardians will be introduced in Infinity War when the God of Thunder crashes into the Milano.

On that note, Pratt went on to tease that the team have a “great” intro in the film, promising that audiences will be on their feet from the first frame.

“I won’t say where we are, but the first frame of seeing us, people will be on their feet. I’m not just saying that because of how great we are, although we are great, and I guess I am pretty cocky, but the way it’s executed really works.”

Exciting their appearance may be, Pratt has previously admitted that the Guardians will mostly be “supporting players” in Avengers: Infinity War, as the film is still primarily an Avengers movie. That makes sense, and we can’t wait to see the two teams cross paths later next month, when the event pic crashes into theaters on April 27th.
