New Arrow Synopsis Hints At Dark Days Ahead For Oliver

If you’ve been keeping up with the current season of Arrow, then you may make the argument that it feels like a true ensemble show now more than ever. In fact, the title card at the top of each episode these days also showcases logos for the likes of Black Canary, Spartan, Wild Dog and others.

Still, it’s important that the series not lose its primary focus on its central character, that being Oliver Queen AKA the Green Arrow. And judging by what the synopsis for the April 12 episode, “Fundamentals,” has to tell us, fans of the Emerald Archer won’t be let down – but the spotlight may come at a price:

OLIVER IS VISITED BY A GHOST FROM HIS PAST —  In his darkest place yet, Oliver (Stephen Amell) wonders if he has failed at everything – being a father, a mayor and a hero. His frustration rising, Oliver lashes out at Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and William (guest star Jack Moore). A surprising visit from an old friend has Oliver questioning his next move. Ben Bray directed the episode written by Speed Weed & Emilio Ortega Aldrich (#618).

To date, Oliver has faced his share of challenges, whether they be caused by the likes of Deathstroke, Ra’s al Ghul or Prometheus. And while this is likely some hyperbole put forth by the network, we can only wonder how our hero will arrive at his “darkest place yet.”

Will Ricardo “The Dragon” Diaz push him to the breaking point? Will Black Siren betray him yet again, doing something so atrocious that there’s no going back? Could – gasp – a major character die in the preceding episode? Time will tell, but our gut feeling is that some bad stuff is about to go down.

Arrow returns with new episodes on Thursday, March 29 on The CW.
