When we see promos titled “The End is Near” surfacing online, it’s very difficult not to think that the landscape of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be remarkably different after both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 – or whatever the latter may be called – have had their run.
Speaking of which, one dramatic shakeup to the status quo that many True Believers – myself included – expect to come to fruition is that of the death of Steve Rogers. After all, Chris Evans’ contract is just about up and even his colleague in Sebastian Stan isn’t ruling out the possibility of Bucky Barnes taking up the mantle of Captain America in the very near future.
And while it remains to be seen if indeed that’ll happen, Evans can’t help but reflect on the positive experiences that have come with playing the Sentinel of Liberty, offering the following to Entertainment Tonight:
“[I’ll miss] everything [about Captain America]. I mean, it’s not just the character, it’s the people – the experience, such good movies, such wonderful memories. I’ll miss a lot.”
Having laid that out, some of you reading this may be wondering why Evans would give it up if he’s had such a great ride. Well, the answer is actually quite simple: Even if actors have loved playing a specific character for an extended period of time, it’s just natural that they’ll want to try new things at some point.
On that note, here’s what he had to say about his markedly different role in Lobby Hero:
“He’s not a good man,” he said of his character Bill. “I sometimes play, you know, selfless people who are more concerned with the welfare of others than themselves, and that’s not exactly this guy. It’s fun to explore different avenues as an actor.”
Regardless of having read that, we’ll watch Avengers: Infinity War with an open mind when it arrives in theaters on April 27, just as we will Avengers 4 when that drops on May 3, 2019.
