The CW has revealed which shows are being renewed for the 2018/19 season, including the entirety of the Arrowverse and Supernatural.

Presumably buoyed up by the reception to the awesome Scooby-Doo crossover, fans of The CW’s Supernatural can now enjoy some more good news. And that’s because season 14 is a go!

Given that this is the network’s longest-running show and has one of the most faithful fan communities in contemporary television, it being renewed isn’t particularly surprising. Still, it’s nice to know the Winchesters are going to be doing their thing for a while longer.

The announcement came alongside confirmation that most of the rest of The CW’s lineup is heading back into production. Their successful Arrowverse shows (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning) are all going to get another season, as are Friday night stalwarts Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. In addition, hit show Riverdale is due to return to screens, having been a huge success on Netflix over the summer, as will Dynasty.

I’m particularly pleased that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is coming back. The show doesn’t get the most impressive ratings, but it’s a critical hit and apparently has strong figures on streaming services. The upcoming season 4 is scheduled to end the story of Rachel Bloom’s lovelorn Rebecca Bunch, too, and I’d have been dismayed if it ended on a cliffhanger.

For all the good news in this announcement, there still does remain a number of shows whose future is hazy. Both Valor and Life Sentence didn’t perform particularly well, and iZombie and The 100 are still up in the air, too, with the network presumably waiting until all the viewing data is with them before they bring the hammer down one way or another.

The CW’s President Mark Pedowitz summed it up best, saying:

“As The CW expands to a six-night, Sunday through Friday schedule next season, we are proud to have such a deep bench of great returning series for 2018-19. By picking these ten series up for next season, we have a terrific selection of programming to choose from when we set our fall schedule in May, with more still to come. And I’m especially happy that we’ll continue to work with the incredibly talented casts, producers, and writers who create the series our fans are so passionate about.”

Circling back to Supernatural, though, and the show currently airs Thursday nights on The CW and will be back on April 5th with “The Thing.”
