Sabrina the Teenage Witch

First Look At Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina

Production is now underway on Netflix's upcoming reboot of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. The new supernatural series will sidestep the fondly-remembered sitcom from the 1990s and instead draw inspiration from the acclaimed The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comic series from Archie Comics, which took the story in a much darker direction.

Production is now underway on Netflix’s upcoming reboot of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. The new supernatural series will sidestep the fondly-remembered sitcom from the 1990s and instead draw inspiration from the acclaimed The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comic series from Archie Comics, which took the story in a much darker direction.

One thing we know will remain the same as every other incarnation of the long-lived character though is that Sabrina will still be madly in love with her boyfriend Harvey Kinkle. That’s very clear in this new photo (below), which offers us our first look at Kiernan Shipka as the adolescent sorceress, as we see her holding hands with Ross Lynch’s Harvey.

Though we’ve been told that The CW’s Riverdale and Sabrina won’t crossover, fans have been quick to point out that this pic teases a minor link between the Netflix show and that other TV series based on an Archie Comics property. Harvey’s jacket in the image looks a lot like one worn by Jughead, as played by Cole Sprouse, on the popular teen drama. It could well be deliberate, but we’ll have to wait and see.

90s children will remember that Melissa Joan Hart and Nate Richert played the spellbound lovers on Sabrina the Teenage Witch. If the Netflix series is going to follow a similar path to the comics, though, their relationship will have a much more, let’s say, unorthodox path in this reboot than it did in the classic sitcom.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina also features Lucy Davis and Miranda Otto as Sabrina’s witchy aunts Hilda and Zelda, Jaz Sinclair as Sabrina’s best friend Rosalind and Michelle Gomez as the evil Madame Satan. Sabrina’s faithful talking cat Salem will likewise appear. Netflix has yet to reveal when the show will drop, but stay tuned for more.
