Where will you be when it all ends? That’s the question posed by the latest promo for Avengers: Infinity War, which is more or less just a condensed version of the one we got yesterday, but still an exciting sneak peek at the upcoming event movie that shows us that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are truly on the ropes.
In light of Captain America: Civil War and its own calamitous, deeply personal showdown, the likes of Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow and even Hawkeye are all still licking their wounds – physical, if not emotional – so it’s no wonder Joe and Anthony Russo continue to warn viewers that Infinity War opens at a time when our heroes are at their lowest. At their most vulnerable.
Cue Thanos. Of course, Marvel’s Mad Titan needs no introduction, as his all-consuming masterplan has been foreshadowed for years – 10 years, in fact – and thanks to today’s new promo, we now have a better understanding of how the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy, in particular, react to such a colossal threat.
Speaking to members of the press during a recent set visit, writer Stephen McFeely promised that they’ve really gone “to town” with Josh Brolin’s big bad, saying:
“This is about the culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is about everyone getting together, or trying their hardest to get together, to fight a guy named Thanos. We’ve been teasing Thanos for many movies in 30-second clips, so hopefully all the lead up will allow us to really go to town with him and make him a villain that requires this epic level of storytelling That is the word I would use most often. It’s ridiculously big.”
Avengers: Infinity War reaches theaters on April 27th, and while the excitement is electric – palpable, even – the Russo Brothers have asked fans to think twice about posting spoilers. Because after 10 years and 18 movies’ worth of exposition and city-leveling spectacle, why ruin the fun?
