Avengers: Infinity War Gets A PG-13 For Intense Violence

Much to the surprise of no one, Avengers: Infinity War has been handed a PG-13. What is surprising, though, is that it's said to have intense violence.

There are two certainties going into the release of Avengers: Infinity War.

For one, the war brewing between Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and Thanos will spill over into 2019, given the top-secret Avengers 4 is expected to bring the curtain down on this current installment of the MCU and all of its many interconnected story strands.

The other, much more unsettling truth is that no one – and we really mean no one – is guaranteed to walk out of Infinity War alive, and it’s this added sense of drama that has left the entire Marvel community on a knife-edge. How exactly things will play out for our heroes remains to be seen, of course, but we do at least know to expect them to encounter some “intense violence” in the pic.

That’s according to the MPAA, who’ve given Avengers: Infinity War a PG-13 rating today. This is hardly surprising, seeing as Marvel movies always fall into that category, but the reason for their decision is certainly intriguing. According to the organization, they’ve gone with a PG-13 because the film contains “intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action throughout, language and some crude references.”

Obviously, no one’s expecting blood and gore to be flying around the screen, but it’s clear that the fight against Thanos will be a tough one. Meanwhile, the “language and crude references” no doubt comes from the inclusion of the Guardians in the film, as Star-Lord and co. tend to push the envelope with what a PG-13 movie can get away with.

And we’ll get to see all this for ourselves on April 27th. For after 10 years and 18 movies, Avengers: Infinity War has become one of the most anticipated motion picture events of all-time, and we can hardly wait to find out what Marvel’s got in store for us.
