New Gotham Synopsis Teases One Bad Day

Given the multitude of villains that Gotham has adapted from the comics, it comes as a relief that the series has at long last gotten around to introducing the Joker. Well, at least in every sense except for name. Yes, we have a few episodes ahead of us that'll show us just how this Jeremiah Valeska thing will play out, but hey, at least we're finally getting a pale-skinned Cameron Monaghan in a purple suit, right?

Given the multitude of villains that Gotham has adapted from the comics, it comes as a relief that the series has at long last gotten around to introducing the Joker. Well, at least in every sense except for name. Yes, we have a few episodes ahead of us that’ll show us just how this Jeremiah Valeska thing will play out, but hey, at least we’re finally getting a pale-skinned Cameron Monaghan in a purple suit, right?

Personally, I think the producers are being forced to dance around the villain’s iconic name as to not step on the toes of anything going on over in WB’s motion picture division, but that doesn’t mean what’s remaining this season is any less exciting. In fact, tribute will be paid to The Killing Joke on May 10 when “A Dark Knight: One Bad Day” arrives.

Of course, those familiar with the classic graphic novel penned by Alan Moore know that to be extracted from the line, “All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy.” So, obviously, this reference should have everything to do with Jeremiah.

But before we get too ahead of ourselves, let’s take a look at the freshly released synopsis:

As Gotham falls into complete anarchy, a team of unlikely heroes step up to save it. Bullock takes the lead at the GCPD and Bruce’s psychological limits are tested as those close to him are put in danger in the all-new “A Dark Knight: One Bad Day” episode of GOTHAM airing Thursday, May 10 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Although that’s decidedly vague, the list of guest stars does hint more at what to expect, with Monaghan naturally reprising his role as the aforementioned Jeremiah Valeska and David W. Thompson coming back for another outing as the Scarecrow. Not only that, but Shiva Kalaiselvan is set to return as Lelia, so it stands to reason that something will be up with the League of Shadows that week as well.

Gotham airs on Thursday nights on Fox.
