Marvel’s Kevin Feige Not Opposed To An MCU Horror Movie

Chatting to ComicBook.com in anticipation of Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel boss Kevin Feige admitted that an MCU horror movie is not off the table.

Whether it’s the zany comedy of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies or the grand, operatic family drama that is Black Panther, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is as rich and diverse as they come.

It’s also been inspired by heist films (see: Ant-Man) and full-blown space operas, so it’s small wonder why fans are now pining for a full-blown horror movie to release under the Marvel Studios banner.

Blade is an obvious candidate, given he’s already been linked with a possible reboot now that the rights have reverted back to the House of Ideas. Elsewhere, a Moon Knight solo movie was recently floated as a potential avenue for the MCU to explore, and though he stopped short of mentioning specifics, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige spoke more about opening up the doors to an MCU horror movie during a recent chat with ComicBook.com:

I like both of those characters that you named and I think, again, horror can mean a lot of things. Horror, did you mean a movie like Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Hostel or a Friday the 13th or a Poltergeist? Poltergeist is a little bit more my wheelhouse, that’s such a great movie and it scared the heck out of me but it’s really fun. I don’t know, I certainly would like to play with as many genres as possible.

Whatever the outcome, Feige is firmly confident that variety – both behind the lens and in front – is the secret sauce that will ensure the MCU avoids franchise fatigue, even as it approaches its 20th installment.

He continued:

I think it always and I hope will continue to vary. I enjoy very much the success of Thor: Ragnarok and all of the articles that were being written around the release of that film that ‘the MCU has now just gone full comedy,’ ‘MCU has just embraced the full silliness and is just embracing a very eclectic, strange sense of humor.’ And I remember reading those and thinking, ‘Yes but wait till you see Black Panther.’ And now Black Panther and the advertisements for Infinity War, ‘everything’s gonna be dark now, everything’s gonna be…’ I will say it always will vary depending on the story we wanna tell on any individual movie.

Next up for the MCU is the launch of Avengers: Infinity War later this week (!), while we fully expect to catch some of the early reviews tomorrow evening. It’s happening, people!
