Ash Vs Evil Dead

Bruce Campbell Says He’s Now Retired From The Role Of Ash

In light of Starz's decision to scrap Ash Vs. Evil Dead, Bruce Campbell has hinted that he's now ready to retire the titular character after 30-odd years of slaying Deadites.

Ash Vs. Evil Dead is no more, and it looks as though Bruce Campbell is ready to move on to pastures anew.

Amid news that Starz is pulling the plug after three seasons of gloriously violent, undead action, Campbell took to Twitter (h/t Bloody Disgusting) to announce that, while he has nothing but love and respect for those impassioned fans behind the recent Netflix petition, he’s officially “retired as Ash.”

Yes, after more than 30 years of Deadite-slaying and wry one-liners, it looks certain that Bruce Campbell is ready to hang up his chainsaw once and for all, meaning this Sunday’s season 3 finale of Ash Vs. Evil Dead – now known as the series finale – will go down as the actor’s last hurrah.

Alas, that Netflix petition looks to have been in vain, as Campbell informed his followers that it’s time to fry some other fish – his words, not ours – now that Ash Vs. Evil Dead has been shelved indefinitely.

And while news of Ash Vs. Evil Dead being scrapped is undoubtedly disappointing, the actor still looks back on his tenure fondly, calling Ash Williams the “role of a lifetime.”

Ash vs Evil Dead has been the ride of a lifetime. Ash Williams was the role of a lifetime. It was an honor to reunite with Evil Dead partners Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi to give our tireless fans another taste of the outrageous horror/comedy they demanded. I will always be grateful to Starz for the opportunity to revisit the franchise that launched our careers.

If this is really to be the end of Ash Williams, and Bruce Campbell stays true to his word, then Sunday’s series finale of Ash Vs. Evil Dead will be one to remember, as it’ll bring the curtain down on not only Starz’s horror/comedy, but also Ash’s saga, as a whole. We’re not crying, you’re crying!
