While in attendance at the ongoing CinemaCon, writer-director Patty Jenkins confirmed that, yes, Wonder Woman 2 is set during the 1980s, which ought to make for a pretty drastic change of pace when compared to the original movie, after it whisked viewers off to a mainland Europe crippled by World War I.

Jenkins refrained from divulging too much, too soon – besides, Warner Bros. was busy showing off footage from both Aquaman and David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! movie, the latter of which took the form of a behind-the-scenes sizzle reel featuring Dr. Sivana and an up-close look at the super-suit to be worn by Zachary Levi.

Wonder Woman 2, on the other hand, finds itself just behind both of those tentpoles on the official DC slate, so it should come as no surprise that Patty Jenkins is yet to begin shooting. Word is the cameras will start rolling this summer though, when Gal Gadot will be sharing the screen with Kristen Wiig, who recently clinched the role of Cheetah.

She’s been a long-time adversary for Diana in the original comics, though the jury’s still out on whether Wiig’s character will take the name of Priscilla Rich (the Golden and Silver Age Cheetah), Deborah Domaine (the Bronze Age Cheetah) or Barbara Ann Minerva (the current Cheetah).

Nevertheless, one thing we can tell you with absolute certainty is that 2019’s Wonder Woman sequel will unfurl in the 1980s, a decade of big tunes and even bigger hair.

Expect Wonder Woman 2 to grace theaters on November 1st, 2019 – six weeks earlier than initially expected.
