Gotham season 4 is gearing up for an explosive finale – literally!
A cataclysmic event is about to hit Bruce Wayne’s home city which will change everything. The cast and crew of Fox’s Batman prequel have been teasing the episode, titled “No Man’s Land,” for a while now and last week finally gave us our first glimpse of the season’s climax in a vision from Ra’s Al-Ghul. Now, this new synopsis has arrived and it promises lots of destruction and devastation.
It seems Ben McKenzie’s Jim Gordon will be faced with a difficult choice as he gets a dire warning from proto-Joker Jeremiah (Cameron Monaghan). Meanwhile, Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) will have to deal with the return of Ra’s and the loss of her position at the top of the League of Shadows. Finally, Bruce (David Mazouz) will have to face the future.
Jeremiah warns a skeptical Gordon of more destruction coming Gotham’s way, and Gordon is forced to make a potentially devastating decision. Meanwhile, Barbara rallies together a team to secure her position, as alliances in the underworld shift and prove no one can be trusted. Then, Bruce is forced to come to terms with the future in the all-new “A Dark Knight: No Man’s Land” season finale episode of GOTHAM airing Thursday, May 17 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (GTH-422) (TV-14 L, V)
Could this synopsis be hinting that Bruce is about to step up and become the hero that Gotham needs right now? It certainly looks that way. Season 4 has upped the Batman foreshadowing more than ever. Last episode, in particular, saw Ra’s Al-Ghul promise the billionaire orphan that the oncoming destruction will mold the young Wayne into “a Dark Knight of Gotham.”
This would be a major move for the show, but then again, it seems that Gotham will be very different if it gets renewed. Exec producer Danny Cannon previously promised that the aftermath of the event would, in effect, “reboot” the series for season 5. Doing away with all pretense and finally suiting Bruce up as the Caped Crusader would definitely constitute a pretty big revamp for the prequel, don’t you think?
Gotham is on a break this week but will return with episode 4×20, titled “That Old Corpse,” on Thursday, May 3rd.
