As the culmination of 18 films and 10 years’ worth of storylines, Avengers: Infinity War was a big, big movie. There’s no denying that. Featuring more characters than you can shake an Infinity Gauntlet at, there was a heck of a lot going on in the pic and as it took us all across the galaxy, we got the chance to visit several planets – some of which we’ve been to before but a lot of which were brand new.
Aside from Earth, of course, we were taken to Knowhere, Vormir, Titan and more. If you weren’t able to keep up, we don’t blame you, as like we said, there was much happening in the film. But lucky for you, we’ve put together a little rundown of every planet that Infinity War visited, along with their significance. And it all kicks off with the aforementioned Knowhere.
Yes, this one should definitely be familiar to fans, and while it’s not a planet per se (rather, it’s a severed head of a Celestial floating along The Rip), we’ve already caught a glimpse of it thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s here that Star-Lord and co. visit the Collector. In Infinity War, Peter Quill and his friends return there to stop Thanos from grabbing the Reality Stone, which the aforementioned Collector has. Unfortunately, though, they’re too late.
Another planet that plays a prominent part in the film is Nidavellir, which is where we meet King Eitri (Peter Dinklage), who tells Thor, Groot and Rocket that Thanos arrived there requesting that the dwarf build him something powerful enough to hold all six Infinity Stones. Obviously, that turned out to be the Infinity Gauntlet and once the Mad Titan had it, he killed everyone on the planet, except Eitri.
Thankfully for Thor, though, his old pal is still able to help him out and forges Stormbreaker for the God of Thunder, an insanely powerful new weapon which certainly comes in handy.
Moving on, another key location is Vormir, located in the Kree Galaxy. This one actually comes as a bit of a surprise, as it turns out to house both the Soul Stone and Red Skull, who’s a guide there for those who seek it. Once Thanos figures that out, he heads to the planet with Gamora to retrieve the Stone. It isn’t long though before we learn that the Mad Titan must make a huge sacrifice if he’s to get his hands on it. As Red Skull says, he must trade “a soul for a soul,” and unfortunately for Zoe Saldana’s Guardian, she’s that soul.
Speaking of Gamora, we also see where she grew up, Zen-Whoberi. Though it’s not named as such in the film, this is what the planet’s called in the comics so for now, that’s what we’re going with. In Infinity War, it shows up briefly as we flashback to a young Gamora, watching as Thanos invades her homeworld with his Chitauri army.
Finally, there’s Titan, which is where Josh Brolin’s big bad himself hails from. As we see in the movie, it was once a thriving, beautiful planet, but didn’t have enough resources for its people. Of course, Thanos’ solution to this was halving the population, but his idea was rejected. When our heroes arrive on Titan in the present day to do battle, it’s a radically different place than it was in the past, destroyed and abandoned.
So, there you have it, all the planets that we visited throughout the course of Avengers: Infinity War. Where its currently untitled sequel will take us is obviously unknown, but we’re confident that Avengers 4 will be just as exhilarating of a journey when it lands in theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
