Despite so many films based on DC properties being in development, I can’t help but notice the absence of Superman. Sure, I’m just as excited at the prospect of seeing Birds of Prey on the silver screen as the next guy, but I’m right there with those of you who are champing at the bit for a proper Man of Steel 2.
So, while we wait for Big Blue to receive the sequel he deserves, it appears as though Warner Bros. may have some other plans for him. You see, according to Collider, they’ve been hearing for the past month or two that the studio wants “to make Superman the glue that ties all the DC movies together” if indeed Henry Cavill extends his contract.
In other words, he’d be their equivalent of what Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury is to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And while the outlet hasn’t been able to entirely confirm this chatter and is still willing to label it as being a rumor at this point, it comes not long after there have been rumblings of the Last Son of Krypton making a surprise appearance in Shazam, so we think it’s entirely within the realm of possibility.
As you may have heard, Cavill is already formulating some ideas of his own for a hypothetical Man of Steel 2, and pretty much reiterated the subject when speaking with Collider at CinemaCon. Here’s what he had to say:
“I’m having a lot of conversations, behind-the-scenes, with certain people and we will hopefully be having conversations with other people who are also behind-the-scenes to make things start happening. It is very much in my desire to do a Man of Steel 2, a direct sequel to Man of Steel, and there is a whole bunch of Superman story that I want to tell. There is a whole style of Superman’s character that I’m very keen to tell and I’m looking forward to the opportunity.”
