Deadpool Creator Says X-Force Is The Inevitable Next Step

If you were around during the 1990’s, then it stands to reason you remember how big of a deal the X-Men were at that time. I mean, not only did you have the animated series creating new fans every day, but there was also an expansive toyline and the comic books were arguably booming more than they’d been for some time.

In addition to the flagship titles like X-Men and Uncanny X-Men, True Believers also had the likes of X-Factor and X-Force at their disposal, each of which featured remarkably different lineups and new ways of utilizing these dynamic characters.

That said, I’m particularly proud of how the Deadpool movies are opening up this corner of the Marvel Universe to audiences the world over. From what we’ve seen, the Merc with a Mouth’s next big screen outing is set to pave the way for a full-on X-Force team-up flick, and believe me when I say I’m excited by the possibilities.

If you’ve also been keeping up with the trailers for Deadpool 2, then you’ve probably seen how this smooth transition is being put in place. In fact, D. Piddy’s creator, Rob Liefeld, recently had this to say when speaking with Games Radar:

“You’ll have to see the film! But it’s fairly common knowledge that Fox has that movie lined up to go next, and Drew Goddard is writing and directing. I believe X-Force is the inevitable next step but right now i’m just excited for this film to reach the audience that it’s been waiting for these past two years, as I think everyone is going to be very pleased with the outcome!”

To put it bluntly, I’m glad that Fox didn’t simply jump from the first Deadpool picture right into X-Force. In my view, such a move would’ve been jarring and possibly disorienting, so I’m pleased they’re letting the story unfold organically by first introducing the likes of Cable and Domino in the sequel before going all out with the ensemble piece.

What’s also noteworthy is how Liefeld boasted of Deadpool 2‘s scale, likening it to how Aliens upped the ante following Alien:

“You’ll see that the scale is much bigger, and that’s because the first movie had a small $58 million budget. So it was very tight as you only occasionally saw the camera being pulled back a little on the freeway scenes and in a couple of shots at the end. With Deadpool 2, it’s a bit like the difference between Ridley Scott’s original Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens, which was much more action-oriented and also had bigger tech and way more aliens.”

Now that you’ve taken in all this info, know you can witness the beginnings of the X-Force when Deadpool 2 arrives in theaters on May 18.
