We already know that Avengers: Infinity War doesn’t have a huge amount of deleted scenes, as the Russo brothers have explained that the production team made sure the script was cut down to be as tight as possible before filming began. With that in mind, that means there must be a lot of interesting material that was never put before the cameras.
Speaking to Backstory Magazine (via The Playlist), Infinity War scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely dished on a few of the most notable sequences which were ultimately excised from the shooting script. These include some intriguing flashback scenes that filled in Thanos’ earlier days.
One revealed how he dealt with the rejection that came from his idea to wipe out half of the people on his home world of Titan, as an extreme measure to save it from destruction. Another one, meanwhile, would have revealed how he recruited the Black Order, his “children.”
Away from Thanos, the writers explained that the introductory scene with Tony Stark and Pepper Potts was initially “tonally different” from the one in the finished film, which sees the couple on good terms, and possibly even expecting. Perhaps the one that fans will be gutted the most to find out was cut, though, is an additional action sequence which involved Captain America’s band of fugitive heroes.
“We had a couple of really cool versions of an action sequence illustrating what Steve, Natasha, and Falcon – basically the Secret Avengers – have been up to. They kicked a lot of ass and it was brutal.”
Finally, the duo promised that, though this Cap moment was removed from Avengers: Infinity War, Steve Rogers will have much more to do in the upcoming Avengers 4. All the writers could say at this stage was that he’ll undergo “a very intense arc” in next May’s sequel. Given the rumors that Chris Evans could be saying goodbye to the MCU after this movie, we expect things might get very intense indeed.
