Gotham’s Fifth And Final Season Will Focus On Bruce Becoming Batman

Amid news that Fox has renewed Gotham for a fifth and final season, Deadline notes that the show's swan song will largely focus on Bruce's transformation into the Dark Knight.

This past weekend, we caught wind of Fox’s major TV shake-up, resulting in surprise cancellations (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and shows being entirely overhauled amid internal drama. Here’s looking at you, Lethal Weapon.

However, on the superhero front, the network handed out a fifth and final season order to Gotham, the hit prequel series that chronicles Bruce Wayne’s formative years in a city crippled by crime and larger-than-life gangsters.

It wasn’t always a sure-thing, of course, but this month’s ratings spike ensured Gotham was saved from cancellation at the 11th hour. And as a wise man once said, the night is darkest just before the dawn, and with season 5 officially on the cards, we’re now learning that Gotham‘s swan song will focus on the young Bruce as he makes that definitive transformation into the Caped Crusader we know and love.

Per Deadline:

The fifth and final season will wrap up this unique origin story of the great DC Comics Super-villains and vigilantes, which revealed an entirely new chapter that has never been told.

Not that we can say we haven’t seen it coming; indeed, the entire series revolves around Bruce Wayne taking his former steps to become the Dark Knight, Gotham’s silent protector who is willing to sacrifice life and limb so that his beloved city withstands the greed and corruption festering in the shadows.

Throughout season 4, much of that chaos has stemmed from Cameron Monaghan’s Jerome/Jeremiah, and it’s fair to say that the so-called proto-Joker has put Bruce Wayne and his allies through their paces.

All of this will culminate with Thursday’s season finale, “A Dark Knight: No Man’s Land,” before Gotham returns for its fifth and final season later this year.
