Deadpool 2’s Initial Post-Credits Scene Featured Chris Evans As The Human Torch

Early on in development, Deadpool 2 screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese floated the idea of including Chris Evans as the Human Torch.

Back in 2016, screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Zombieland) were solely responsible for the script underpinning Tim Miller’s Deadpool, which went on to become the highest-grossing R-rated superhero movie in film history.

Such unprecedented success opened up a sense of creative freedom on Deadpool 2 which, coupled with input from Ryan Reynolds – the Wade Wilson star earned a writing credit for his contributions – resulted in a no-holds-barred adventure that’s seemingly more concerned with meta gags and superhero clichés than it is with delivering a competent story. And that’s the problem.

Nevertheless, Wernick and Reese drew the line at Baby Hitler. And at Chris Evans reprising his role as the Human Torch, it seems. While discussing all things Deadpool with Uproxx, the writing duo addressed the post-credits content that remained on the floor of the editing room.

There were different codas kicked around. There were more X-Force interviews that were talked about. One was Chris Evans as Human Torch.

And similar to how Ryan Reynolds called up David Beckham and Celine Dion for lavish promos, not to mention [redacted] for that super-secret Deadpool 2 cameo, it seems that the sequel’s creative team came pretty damn close to picking up the phone and getting in touch with Chris Evans.

Alas, they decided against it, as Reese tells Uproxx:

No, no, we never got that far. Someone had the idea we actually did and we thought that was better. But we definitely had a lot more X-Force interviews with bizarre, random people coming in to interview.

Baby Hitler and Chris Evans as the Human Torch of Fantastic Four…just another day at the office for Deadpool, eh? Expect that second coming to open big on May 18th.
