Infinity War: James Gunn Shares His Alternative Songs For The Guardians Of The Galaxy’s Entrance

Over on Twitter, James Gunn has revealed the alternative songs he considered for the Guardians' big entrance in Avengers: Infinity War.

It was arguably one of the more pressing questions leading up to Avengers: Infinity War‘s arrival: how would Joe and Anthony Russo handle the inevitable transitions from one character(s) to another?

With so many A-listers at their disposal – not to mention the sheer scope of Infinity War‘s super-sized story – many felt that Marvel’s third Avengers movie would ultimately buckle under its own weight, so it’s a credit to the Russo Brothers that the end product (mostly) lived up to expectations.

But when the time came to bring Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy into the fray, the Russos doubled down on comedy, beginning with a wide shot of the cosmos that was aptly labeled “space.” Adding to this was a short blast of “The Rubberband Man” by The Spinners, but it turns out James Gunn had actually drawn up a list of possible alternatives, on the off-chance that Infinity War‘s directing duo wanted to select something a little different to accompany the arrival of Star-Lord and Co.

Over on Twitter, the fan-favorite filmmaker confirmed that he had whittled down his list to four possible contenders, one of which was “The Rubberband Man.” That song is of particular significance to Gunn, too, as it was the very first song he ever heard on the AM/FM radio given to him by his father, so it’s only fitting that it helped introduce the Guardians during Infinity War.

And here are the alternatives:

Avengers: Infinity War is now playing all across the globe, and if a leaked retail listing is to be believed, the Marvel epic will grace Blu-ray and DVD on August 14th – two weeks after its debut on Digital.
