Jessica Jones and Kilgrave

Krysten Ritter Wants To See Jessica Jones Be More Of A Hero In Season 3

Speaking at Comicpalooza in Houston this past weekend, Jessica Jones actress Krysten Ritter revealed what she wants to see in season 3 of the show.

Brian Michael Bendis’ Alias was one of the best comics of the 2000s, giving us an exciting new perspective on the Marvel Universe. So, fans were understandably thrilled when Netflix announced that they were adapting the comic as Jessica Jones in 2015. And they were even happier when they watched the first episode and realized that the studio had absolutely nailed the tone of the source material and that Krysten Ritter was outstanding in the lead role.

That rookie season adapted the central plot of the comic to winning effect, with David Tennant killing it as Kilgrave (in my opinion, perhaps the best villain the MCU has seen to date). After the slightly anticlimactic Defenders, the recent season 2 picked up with Jones putting her life back together after the gripping resolution of the first outing. And while it wasn’t quite as strong of an effort, Netflix still quickly ordered up a third season.

But what can we expect to see when Jessica returns? Well, it’s too early to say just yet, but Krysten Ritter appeared at Comicpalooza in Houston over the weekend and offered up her thoughts on where she wants to see the character go next, saying:

“What I love so much about season 1 or season 2 were how deeply personal both storylines were, but different. So I got to explore different things within her and in my performance, show new colors. I think season 1 and 2, we really looked back at Jessica’s past. We looked at what made her as hardcore she is and how isolated [she is], and she’s learned a lot — I think especially in season 2 she’s learned a lot about herself. She has a lot to live up to, and I’m curious to see what she does next.”

Continuing on, Ritter stated that she hopes Jessica can move forward in a more positive way, explaining:

“Maybe we’ll get to see her be a bit of a hero, maybe we get to see her move forward in a more positive way. Maybe we see her hating herself less,” the actress added. “I don’t think it’s gonna be like sunshine and rainbows for Jessica Jones anytime soon. But I’d love to see her — even if it’s a small step — step into her potential.”

The end of Jessica Jones season 2 saw most of the characters moved to some interesting places on the board. Malcolm Ducasse was compromising his morals by working for Jeri Hogarth, while Trish might just have got the superpowers she always dreamed of as she was shown to have developed some impressive reflexes.

And as for Jessica herself, she’s rebuilding her life after yet another tragedy, though she’s found some solace with her boyfriend Oscar and his son. Knowing her luck, however, things won’t stay calm for long.

We’ve no idea when Jessica Jones season 3 might arrive, but we imagine an early 2019 debut is the aim. As always, we’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
