Over on Instagram, Jason Momoa vowed to stand by Sony's reboot of The Crow despite this morning's crippling creative setback.

Just when you thought The Crow had been cleared for take-off courtesy of Jason Momoa and The Nun director Corin Hardy, the wheels come off.

For all of its potential, not to mention the fact that Hardy had planned to begin filming sometime before the year’s end, earlier today we brought you the news that the director had backed out of the project – ditto for Jason Momoa – after failing to meet eye-to-eye with Samuel Hadida, whose production banner Davis Films holds the underlying rights for The Crow.

And so, it appears the gothic reimagining has been ordered back to the drawing board (again) as it begins its search for a new director (again), but to his credit, Jason Momoa posted a heartfelt Instagram post (h/t Bloody Disgusting) to reaffirm his commitment to the ill-fated project.

I’ve waited 8 years to play this dream role. I love you @corinhardy and @sonypictures, unfortunately, I may have to wait 8 more. Not our team. But I swear I will. James O’Barr, sorry to let you down. I won’t on the next. This film needs to be set free. And to the fans. Sorry. I can’t play anything but what this film deserves and it needs love. I’m ready when it’s right. Love u Corin aloha

That tentative October 2019 release has also been thrust into jeopardy, after Deadline’s report revealed that Sony Pictures was prepared to pull out as the film’s distributor. Suffice it to say, The Crow still has many more hurdles to overcome if it’s to ever see a release.

So, there you have it; despite the fact that The Crow has been grounded for the foreseeable future, Jason Momoa remains committed to what he considers to be a “dream role,” though it remains to be seen how Hardy’s departure affects this troubled project. More on this story as it develops.
