In what’s shaping up to be a busy, busy week on the new trailer front – Suspiria and Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph sequel, to name but two… – Blumhouse has confirmed plans to unleash the first teaser for Halloween this Friday, June 8th.
Word comes by way of Jason Blum’s official Twitter feed (h/t Bloody Disgusting), where a series of stark, rapid-fire Tweets sent horror fans into a collective tailspin. Keeping things plain and simple, the three Tweets announce that “the Halloween trailer is dropping Friday.” Hold onto your butts.
No further details were disclosed at the time of writing and, frankly, that’s okay, as it cultivates a palpable sense of mystery and intrigue ahead of Friday’s big debut. Besides, if the reactions from CinemaCon are any indication, it’s nigh on certain that the first-look teaser for David Gordon Green’s sequel will beckon us down memory lane…before scaring the pants off us.
Featuring a script co-written by Danny McBride, the Halloween of 2018 is said to be a direct continuation of the John Carpenter classic in that it takes place 40 years after the original and, in doing so, ignores all other installments in the admittedly convoluted film franchise.
That’s likely for the best, as it tees up a blank slate for McBride and Green, whose upcoming horror pic is best described as so:
Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.
Halloween returns home October 19th, and it promises to deliver a fitting send-off for Jamie Lee Curtis’ scream queen as she steels herself for one final confrontation with Michael Myers. More on David Gordon Green’s long-in-development sequel/reboot when we have it.
