X-Force Director Confirms Who’ll Be The Film’s Core Characters

On most occasions, the first question asked whenever a superhero movie goes into production is in regard to which villains will show up. But in the case of team-up flicks, there also tends to be much speculation swirling around who'll round out the roster.

That said, it’s very easy for one to state that the recently released Deadpool 2 served as a prelude of sorts to the upcoming X-Force film. Not only did it introduce the likes of Cable and Domino in their long overdue cinematic debuts, but it also established a rapport between those two and Wade Wilson himself. And with those pleasantries now being out of the way, director Drew Goddard is free to open a veritable treasure trove once his project begins taking off.

Speaking of which, Goddard confirmed said triumvirate as being the core of the team to be featured in his picture while talking with Entertainment Weekly recently, explaining:

“It really all stems from a place of love; I love those comics, I love Ryan [Reynolds], I love Josh [Brolin] and I love Zazie Beetz. When I think of the comics, I think of Cable and Domino and Deadpool, and it’s really just knowing, ‘Oh, right, there’s a world in the X-Universe for the blunt instruments of mutantdom.’ It’s much more about the characters and my love for them than it is about any plot or story line. It’s more about loving them and wanting to see them bounce off each other.”

Now, you could say this is a given – and it probably is – but you can never be too sure of which actors will return for followups these days. And though it’s great to hear the band won’t be broken up, we won’t be holding our breath when it comes to seeing a Cable-Domino romance.

Who’ll comprise the rest of the lineup remains a mystery at the moment, but we’re sure that Goddard will be carefully examining X-Force comics in the months to come. More often than not, filmmakers tend to look toward the OG material, which, in this case, would be books by Rob Liefeld. Still, it doesn’t hurt to draw inspiration from various eras, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea at all to pull from, say, Craig Kyle and Chris Yost’s run.
