Over the past few days, there have been rumblings of Zack Snyder’s fabled cut of Justice League, only this time, there’s a twist: Warner Bros. will allegedly release the unfinished director’s cut on the condition that Snyder’s production banner, Cruel and Unusual Films, foots the bill.
This speculative tidbit began life on 4chan (!) and was later picked up by CBM – ditto for the allegations that Joss Whedon (The Avengers, Batgirl) was also fired from Justice League and that Ray Fisher’s standalone Cyborg movie is no longer a sure thing.
On paper, it makes sense; Warner Bros. has already dumped enough money into Justice League that we can’t imagine the company would be too keen on allocating the necessary resources to complete Snyder’s unfinished cut – providing it actually exists, mind you…
Truth be told, the back-and-forth surrounding Zack Snyder’s “cut” of Justice League has been a little grating, as it’s usually alluded to by one source, only to be debunked by another. Still, this intel uncovered by CBM may signal a new twist in the ongoing saga:
While Warner Bros. has no interest in spending more money in Justice League at this point, they would be open to allowing Zack Snyder to finish it off…if his production company Cruel and Unusual Films foots the bill!
It’s a stretch, of course, but assuming there is a full, near-complete cut of Zack Snyder’s Justice League on hand, we imagine the only way said version will see the warm light of day if it’s financed by someone other than Warner Bros., given the studio is ready to devote its full attention to a slate of standalone DC movies, beginning with Aquaman this Christmas.
