Samuel L. Jackson has rubbed shoulders with the best and brightest heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe over his ten-year-and-counting career as Nick Fury – Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, you name it. One hero he hasn’t come face to face with yet, though, is Black Panther. Chadwick Boseman’s King of Wakanda recently smashed records in his own solo movie back in February, but does Jackson wish he’d been a part of it? You bet he does.
While speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the MCU heavyweight was chatting with the host about Black Panther when Ellen told him she couldn’t believe he didn’t show up in the film. Jackson jokingly replied that he couldn’t believe it, either, and went on to say how much he’d like Fury to meet T’Challa. Apparently, he even bugged Marvel execs to get him in the production.
“I couldn’t either [laughs]. When they were making it, I kept saying ‘So when do I go to Wakanda?’ and they were [shakes head]… I mean Nick Fury knows every black thing that’s on the planet, so he’s gotta know about Wakanda. But yeah, I wish I had been there… Eventually, I may end up in Wakanda.”
Jackson might not have appeared in Black Panther, but he did make his long-awaited return to the franchise in the following movie: specifically, the post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War. The sequence teased his relationship with Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, which is something that’ll be expanded on when the actor reappears in next year’s solo flick for Carol Danvers. Captain Marvel will be set in 1990s and so will explore Fury’s first interaction with a superhero.
Now that he’s back in circulation, then, it’s totally possible that Samuel L. Jackson will get his wish and travel to Wakanda in some future MCU installment, most likely in Black Panther 2. Well, that’s assuming he’s one of those dusted by Thanos that gets resurrected in Avengers 4.
