It would appear that the staying power of Avengers: Infinity War isn’t limited to the big screen, and, apparently, no record is safe from the Infinity Gauntlet.
With the Anthony and Joe Russo-directed blockbuster about to cross the $2 billion plateau at the worldwide ticket booth – a feat only ever achieved thrice before: Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.068B), Titanic ($2.187B) and Avatar ($2.788) – the nineteenth MCU entry can now not only lay claim to a plethora of box office records but a viral one, as well.
This past weekend, the first trailer for Infinity War reached 200 million views on the official Marvel Entertainment YouTube channel, making it the most-watched single upload of a movie trailer in the history of the video-sharing website. Pretty impressive, eh?
Having earned an unprecedented $250 million-plus opening weekend stateside, and subsequently becoming the fastest film to reach the $1 billion plateau, the film also has the MCU closing in on $17 billion grossed worldwide, further cementing the cinematic universe for a long tenure as the highest-grossing film franchise of all time.
Overall, it’s been a helluva year at the box office for Marvel Studios, and we’re now just approaching the halfway point. Thus far, the motion picture company has seen a pair of films enter the all-time worldwide gross top ten in the form of Black Panther ($1.34B) and, obviously, the aforementioned Avengers: Infinity War ($1.97).
Incredibly enough, though, despite post-Phase Three being the target of a recent flurry of activity, Marvel Studios has yet to wrap-up their highest grossing chapter yet, with Ant-Man and the Wasp still to bat for the MCU. The Peyton Reed-directed installment will get a chance at the plate next month when it hopefully opens big on July 6th.
