With a fall 2018 premiere date on the cards and most, if not all of the core cast locked in, season 8 of American Horror Story is finally beginning to fall into place. And doesn’t Ryan Murphy know all about it.
The show’s creator and all-around TV powerhouse is about to launch FX series Pose with Brad Falchuk, but it won’t be much longer before AHS comes calling. Currently on the verge of its eighth season, we know Murphy plans to steer the horror series into the not-so-distant future – 18 months into the future, to be precise – for what promises to be a radical departure from the AHS of old.
Granted, Murphy still name-drops Asylum and Coven as inspiration, after the showrunner told Entertainment Weekly (h/t Bloody Disgusting) that American Horror Story season 8 will be unlike anything we’ve seen before.
It’s not necessarily as real and grounded as the past season. We’re sort of getting back to Asylum and Coven. It’s that tone. That’s the tone of it. You will see so many fan favorites return that you’ll feel like it’s The Love Boat. It’s a very high concept. It’s a season unlike anything we’ve done because there’s a big hook to it. There’s a huge thing that happens in episode five.
On the casting front, FX is poised to welcome a whole host of series regulars, including Dark Phoenix actor Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Billie Lourd, Joan Collins, Billy Eichner, Cheyenne Jackson, Adina Porter and Leslie Grossman.
