A woman says moving across the country after a breakup didn’t bring the clean break she expected.
Instead, she says a former sorority sister called with unexpected news about who her ex-boyfriend had just been spotted shopping with at HomeGoods.
In a video posted to TikTok, Natalie explained that she relocated from Arkansas to Pennsylvania following the end of a year-and-a-half relationship. She said the move had already been on her mind, but the breakup convinced her it was time to be closer to family and leave the situation behind.
She said the relationship had ended in early January after months of recurring problems, even though the pair had lived together and shared a dog. Through it all, she leaned heavily on a friend she had known for five or six years, describing her as someone she considered family.
“This friend and I were friends for about five to six years. Um, I would have considered her my sister.”
The friend she trusted most
According to Natalie, her friend became one of the people she relied on most as the relationship unraveled. During a holiday trip to Pennsylvania and New York, she opened up about her doubts, and her friend encouraged her to move on.
“She’s very adamant that I should break up with him. She’s telling me I deserve better. We should have been engaged already.”
Although the couple split soon after, the breakup was not entirely straightforward. Natalie said she and her ex spent much of January trying to work through their differences and even talked about getting back together. She recalled spending time together during an Arkansas snowstorm and believed they were moving toward reconciliation.
That changed in the week leading up to Valentine’s Day.
She said her ex became distant, prompting her to ask repeatedly whether another woman was involved.
“I asked him several times, are you seeing another girl? He promised to my face, like, on the phone. No.”
She said he later turned off his location, ignored her calls and wasn’t home when she drove past their former apartment. The following morning, she confronted him at work, where she said he admitted he had been talking to another woman for more than a week. For many, the moment a relationship ends is often followed by an unexpected revelation, whether through a conversation, a chance encounter or something shared online.
Believing the relationship was finally over, She continued preparing for her move. Around the same time, she noticed her best friend becoming increasingly difficult to reach, though she said she did not think much of it at first.
Not long after, Natalie said a former sorority sister called to say she had spotted her ex-boyfriend shopping at HomeGoods. What caught her off guard wasn’t that he’d moved on. It was who he was with.
“She calls me and lets me know that actually, our old sorority sister spotted them together in the Home Goods. My ex best friend and my ex boyfriend, They were shopping together.”
She said she immediately texted both of them to ask what was going on. She recalled that her former friend acknowledged the situation but offered little explanation.
“This was never supposed to happen. Like, oh my gosh. Like, I’m so sorry. I know you’re never gonna talk to me again.”
She said she never learned exactly when the relationship between the two allegedly began, though she suspects they may have already been seeing each other while she was still trying to repair her own relationship. As of the time she recorded the video, she said she had since learned through mutual acquaintances that the pair were now engaged.
Many commenters focused more on the alleged betrayal by someone Natalie considered family.
“I want you to be so thankful this did not happen to you 23 years into marriage w kids,” one commenter wrote.
Another simply said, “May this friendship never find me.”
A third offered words of encouragement, writing, “I promise sis, you gone be alright 😭”
Romantic breakups often reshape friendships as well, particularly when trust between mutual friends comes into question. In situations like this, however, only those directly involved know when relationships began or how they developed.
Despite everything, Natalie said she no longer dwells on what happened and has chosen not to remain in contact with either of them.
“I wish them nothing but blessings and pray for them and hope that god works in their lives, because that is not very kind to do to someone.”
