Cloak & Dagger’s Premiere Featured An Obscure Easter Egg That We All Missed

Freeform’s Cloak & Dagger has impressed Marvel fans so far due to its neat connections to other MCU entries. For one, Roxxon, the sinister corporation that’s been referenced in the likes of Iron Man 2, looks to be an important part of the series. What’s more, the mysterious substance Darkforce is key to the heroes’ origins, after it previously played a role in both Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter.

While these are connections that anyone with a working knowledge of the MCU could notice, there’s actually one easter egg hidden in the Cloak & Dagger premiere that even the most ardent Marvel expert would be hard-pressed to pick up on. Showrunner Joe Pokaski spoke to ComicBook.com recently and revealed that Tandy’s T-shirt in the first episode references a band from the Marvel comics universe.

“There’s, you know, here’s the thing. I put two stupid initials on a towel, don’t think anyone’s going to catch it, and as four articles about it. So it’s hard to slip something by the MCU, but I think something I was surprised didn’t get caught, and maybe it was because you never quite read the shirt, was there is a Marvel band on Tandy’s shirt when she goes to the party and is the cemetery, which there aren’t many, which I was very excited about. I think they’re going to become, we’re going to see a little more of that band in seasons to come.”

The band Pokaski’s talking about is the Crick-Hits. If you don’t recognize the name, don’t worry – they only appeared in a couple of issues of The Age of the Sentry from back in 2009. As the series was a homage to comics of the 1960s, the Crick-Hits were intended to be a humorous parody of the Beatles. Clearly, Pokaski likes the band enough to not only reference them in Cloak & Dagger but to also have plans to adapt them in future seasons of the show.

If you’re interested, the towel Pokaski mentions as containing another easter egg is monogrammed with the initials “R.F.” This is found in the house of the uncle to the rich jerk that Tandy robs in the pilot. The inference is that this is referring to Richard Fisk, the son of Daredevil‘s Wilson. Of course, this has fans hoping for a Kingpin cameo in Cloak & Dagger in the future, though Pokaski’s words suggest there isn’t a longterm plan here, so we wouldn’t hold our breath.
