Infinity War Scribes Diss DC Movies: “There’s A Lot Of Spaghetti Being Thrown At The Wall”

If there’s one common complaint that’s often leveled against the DC Extended Universe, it’s that Warner Bros. has a habit of putting the cart before the horse. Which is to say that films like Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Man of Steel are too concerned with launching a shared cinematic universe that they struggle to tick the most basic boxes – pacing, character development…that kind of thing.

Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus, screenwriters of Avengers: Infinity War and the so-far untitled Avengers 4, certainly think so, too, as the creative duo recently appeared on Kevin Smith’s Fat Man on Batman podcast (h/t TheWrap) to discuss the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the state of its biggest competitor.

And so, when Smith asked straight-up about how McFeely and Markus would go about fixing the DC universe, the Marvel duo responded as so:

I might put Batman and Superman and everybody else, I mean Wonder Woman is doing fine, aside for a second. Go through the vast world and go, ‘That guy’ or ‘That girl,’ and go, ‘Let’s just make a really good movie and not a universe and see what happens.’ There’s a lot of spaghetti being thrown at the wall.

Ouch. To their credit, McFeely and Markus aren’t the only ones to come out and openly criticize the DCEU, after Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson threw shade at Warner’s output, as it’s unable to produce a compelling, cohesive story. Or so says SLJ.

Further in their podcast interview, McFeely and Markus offered a very brief status report regarding Avengers 4, revealing:

Status of Avengers 4 is that we shot it, but it’s not due for a while. There’s time for reshoots and fixing and we’re just scrubbing through it now. The Russo brothers have been in there for a few weeks now after the press tour and all that. And the whole team is getting together tomorrow.

Those reshoots are expected to stretch through until the end of the summer, by which point Joe and Anthony Russo will be ready to shift Avengers 4 into post-production, where it’ll likely remain until that much-anticipated release on May 3rd, 2019.
