Samuel L. Jackson Knows How Nick Fury Could Return In Avengers 4

The third act of Avengers: Infinity War mercilessly wiped out a whole host of some of the biggest names in the MCU. And the death didn't stop in the post-credits scene either, when Nick Fury and Maria Hill fell foul of Thanos' Snap as well. All this destruction ended with a glimmer of hope, at least, as Fury's last act before turning to dust was to send an S.O.S. to Captain Marvel.

The implication of this is that Brie Larson’s superheroine will arrive in Avengers 4 and act as the secret weapon the remaining heroes need to go up against Thanos for a second time and win. According to Samuel L. Jackson, though, Carol Danvers may also prove key to bringing some of the fallen characters back to life – including Nick Fury.

While speaking to Vulture, Jackson was asked if he knew he was going to be killed off in Infinity War. He revealed that it was as much a surprise to him as it was the audience, but he did tease that he’s worked out a way that Fury could come back, and it’s all to do with Carol Danvers.

“I had no idea, it came out of the blue. Who’s really dead, and who’s really in the flaky wind of Marvel dust, I don’t know, but I do know there’s a solution that they didn’t even have to tell me, just because I know who Captain Marvel is and what all that means.”

Though Infinity War didn’t make this clear, Fury’s connection to Captain Marvel goes back a long way. We know that next March’s solo movie for the heroine will take place in the 1990s and reveal the younger Fury’s first encounter with a superhero. The ending of Infinity War suggests that, wherever Carol has got to, she at least left Nick with a way to contact her.

This is just a guess, but Captain Marvel proving the key to Fury’s comeback might be to do with her incredible abilities. For instance, Brie Larson has teased that she can even move planets. Given that, maybe she’ll literally move heaven and Earth to bring her old friend back to life when she unites with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers 4.
