HBO has gone all-in on Game of Thrones season 8. Or so says Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
Best known for playing Jaime Lannister on the hit fantasy series, the actor sat down with Variety recently to discuss the show’s impending finale, its epic scope, and how the Powers That Be spent “twice as much” shooting six episodes as they did on two full seasons.
No expense has been spared, it seems, and at least according to Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, whose Jaime Lannister was last seen trotting up towards the North in the hope of brokering peace with Daenerys Targaryen, the Game of Thrones creative team “couldn’t have done a better job” with their series finale.
Per Variety:
They just couldn’t have done a better job on ending our story. We’ve worked harder than ever before. We spent twice as much shooting these six episodes than we did on two full seasons before. No expense has been spared. We’ve gone all in.
Coster-Waldau still has some scenes to film, so Game of Thrones season 8 hasn’t reached the finish line just yet. What we do know, however, is that HBO is taking no chances when it comes to spoilers, as the show’s scripts “vanish” once filming on any one scene has wrapped.
Plus, the fact that Coster-Waldau heaped praise on series showrunner D.B. Weiss and David Benioff certainly bodes well for Lucasfilm’s Star Wars franchise, given that the duo are expected to trade Westeros for a galaxy far, far away in the coming years.
Closer to home, we can expect the eighth and final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones to receive its suitably huge swan song in April of 2019, though it seemingly won’t please everyone…
