How The Avengers: Infinity War Cast Learned About The Ending

In today's digital age, it's undeniably harder to keep spoilers under wraps than ever before. Years ago, we had to wait for which of our favorite magazines had the latest exclusive to hit stands, but now, anyone with a cell phone has the potential to leak the juiciest of information onto the internet. Thus, it's very much understandable that the folks at Marvel Studios kept their cards as close to their vest as humanly possible when it came to anything regarding Avengers: Infinity War.

While none of us outside the blockbuster movie’s production got to lay eyes on the script, you’d think that those starring in it would have known the score, right? Well, it turns out that the cast weren’t privy to all the secrets, either. Not even the top billed ones, like Robert Downey Jr. Of course, Benedict Cumberbatch claims he got his hands on it, though co-director Joe Russo recently teased that the Doctor Strange actor actually received one of the fake scripts that were passed out.

So, how did the cast eventually learn about the film’s shocking ending, then? Well, they were told about it at the last minute, right before they had to shoot it. Or at least, that’s according to Elizabeth Olsen.

The Scarlet Witch actress made an appearance at ACE Comic-Con in Seattle this weekend, where she reflected on the moment when she and her co-stars learned how Avengers: Infinity War ended.

“I found out from the Russos exactly what was going to happen and it wasn’t until we shot it on that day we learned what the ending was. They took us into a van – all of us – we were in a van with air conditioning because it was very hot and they told us how the movie was going to end and no one knew. And they were like ‘Now we’re shooting it, Go!’ and we were like ‘How are we supposed to interpret that?”

While the need for secrecy is understandable, Olsen makes a good point here. Imagine finding out about that devastating climax immediately before you had to act it out. The cast must have been in absolute shock and it’s a true testament to their talents that they were able to pull off what’s undoubtedly one of the most gripping and gutty endings in a comic book movie, ever, with little to no preparation.

The only question now, is, how will the remaining heroes reverse the Mad Titan’s actions from Avengers: Infinity War and bring their friends back? Unfortunately, we don’t have the answer to that, but hang around until May and you’ll no doubt find out.
