Grant Gustin Teases What We Can Expect From The Flash Season 5

The Flash season 4 finale left us with an exciting shake-up of the status quo to ponder over the show's summer break. After appearing in cameos throughout the season, Jessica Parker Kennedy's mystery girl was revealed to be Nora, Barry and Iris' speedster daughter from the future. Just as you would be, the West-Allens looked pretty shocked by her arrival, and according to star Grant Gustin, we can expect some "cool" interactions between the would-be parents and their child who's only a few years younger than them when The Flash returns.

The Flash season 4 finale left us with an exciting shake-up of the status quo to ponder over the show’s summer break. After appearing in cameos throughout the season, Jessica Parker Kennedy’s mystery girl was revealed to be Nora, Barry and Iris’ speedster daughter from the future. Just as you would be, the West-Allens looked pretty shocked by her arrival, and according to star Grant Gustin, we can expect some “cool” interactions between the would-be parents and their child who’s only a few years younger than them when The Flash returns.

The actor held a Q&A panel at this weekend’s ACE Comic-Con in Seattle and was asked what he can say about season 5. Obviously, the answer to that was “not much,” but he did promise that Nora will play a big role in the next run of The CW’s DC TV series. In particular, he hinted that fans should “get ready” to see this new speedster make her mark on the show.

“I don’t want to spoil too much of it, obviously. I don’t know too much either. What I could presume is that we’re going to see… I mean, [Nora is] trapped in our time. I think, we’re probably going to see Barry trying to help her figure out a way to get back to her time. And see Barry and Iris interacting with an adult version of their child. I mean, it’s going to be really cool. We’re gonna see a new speedster, so. Get ready.”

Perhaps in response to the abundance of speedsters in season 3, The Flash seemed keen to remove all of the supporting speedy characters on the show in its most recent run in order to make Barry Allen a bit more unique again, with the likes of Kid Flash, Jesse Quick and Jay Garrick only appearing a handful of times each. It sounds like season 5 will be loosening this policy somewhat, though, as we now have Nora added into the mix.

Gustin’s on-screen wife, Candice Patton, has previously teased that Iris will be more than a little put out by encountering a daughter she hasn’t even had yet as an adult, and also teased that Nora’s time-travelling might have some big consequences for the timeline. Could she be responsible for the rise of the new big bad, Cicada? We’ll find out when The Flash returns to our screens on October 9th.
