As reported by Screen Crush, Venom‘s official trailer (see here) has accumulated more than 64 million views on YouTube since it was released into the wild back in April. That’s higher than any other installment in the Spider-Man franchise – not even Homecoming (28 million) or The Amazing Spider-Man (37 million) come close to Sony’s record – and big enough to rival a number of true Hollywood titans, such as Star Wars: The Last Jedi (50 million), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (55 million), and Iron Man 3 (62 million).

The Force Awakens and Infinity War‘s respective trailers cracked 100 million views upon release, so it remains to be seen whether Venom can climb higher still.

To date, Sony Pictures has released only two trailers for Venom, and it’s clear that this ‘less is more’ approach has pushed the film’s view count higher than anyone could’ve expected. It’s also important to remember that trailer views don’t necessarily equate to box office success, meaning Sony and director Ruben Fleischer still face an uphill battle if they’re to win over the naysayers on October 5th.

One thing’s for sure: Tom Hardy has turned in a tour-de-force performance as the haunted Eddie Brock. He’s the bitter reporter who comes into contact with that infamous alien symbiote (a role which Hardy also voiced), resulting in a third, superior being.

Look for Venom to make its debut on October 5th, and at least in the eyes of comic book writer Todd McFarlane, there’s still a chance that Eddie Brock may one day share the screen with Spawn, the demonic anti-hero also known as Al Simmons.
