Young Justice: Outsiders Delayed Until 2019, New Image And Synopsis Surface

When Young Justice was lamentably cancelled after two seasons – on a cliffhanger that introduced Darkseid to the series, no less – many of us were rightfully up in arms. Dubbed Young Justice: Outsiders, the next leg of the journey is set to join the live action Titans series as being those to lead the way for the DC Universe digital streaming initiative slated to arrive later this fall. As of now, it’s unknown what awaits Nightwing, Aqualad, Miss Martian and the rest of the gang, but it’s probably safe to assume that the forces of Apokolips will likely play a key role.

Well, unfortunately, the aforementioned Titans will have to fly solo for at least a few months because Outsiders has been delayed until 2019. No reason has been given, but one could assume that, similar to Netflix, DC Universe may drop entire seasons of original shows all at once, therefore those behind the service are waiting until every episode has completed production.

On the plus side, though, another new image (seen above) showing one of the multiple teams making up the the next chapter in the saga has emerged. This time, Blue Beetle, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash/Impulse, Arrowette, Spoiler, Static Shock, Robin and a new character dubbed “Thirteen” are standing shoulder to shoulder.

Given the show’s history of time jumps, it’s hard not to point out that the Robin on display here looks a lot like Damian Wayne. Previously, Dick Grayson wore the mantle in season 1 before he graduated to being Nightwing, with Tim Drake being added to the equation in season 2 – though it was acknowledged that Jason Todd was around at some point in between.

Speaking of which, the synopsis released does hint at some new arrivals:

Young Justice: Outsiders features the return of the fan favorite animated series with a huge cast of DC’s most iconic young superheroes – plus brand-new characters, many of whom are just discovering their unique meta-powers and special abilities. Set against the backdrop of a rich, deep world that touches all corners of the DC universe, the season focuses on meta–trafficking, and an intergalactic arms race for control of these super–powered youths.”

Given all this, it should be highly interesting to see the new places Young Justice: Outsiders will take us, regardless of whether it continues passing the Robin torch or not.
