Titans Star Says The Show Will Give Us The Origin Stories Of The Heroes

DC Universe, the upcoming streaming service dedicated to all things DC, is set to launch this fall and the jewel in its crown will be Titans, a new TV series which will bring the Teen Titans to live-action for the first time in their history. Starring the likes of Brenton Thwaites as Robin, Anna Diop as Starfire, Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, Teagan Croft as Raven and Alan Ritchson as Hawk, it’ll see Batman’s former sidekick go at it alone and form his own superhero team.

While talking to Mario Lopez in a recent interview, Titans star Minka Kelly revealed that the show will also dive into the backstories of the various heroes on display to reveal what past traumas caused them all they to choose the path of the vigilante.

“We’re vigilantes, so you get to see the backstory of how we became vigilantes what happened in our lives that broke us that made us want to fight — to protect, to protect other people.”

Kelly’s comments support what we’ve gathered about the series so far from plot leaks and character breakdowns. For instance, we’re pretty sure that Bruce Wayne will appear in flashbacks which explore Dick Grayson’s childhood as the Dark Knight’s protege. It’s also likely that these will reveal his history with Jason Todd, who’ll turn up in the later episodes of Titans as played by Curran Walters.

Rumors point to the show attempting to distance itself as much as possible from the Teen Titans Go! animated series as well, with it being said that it’ll feature lots of strong language, visceral violence and an all-round moody, dark tone. That should make it stand out in the crowed field of DC TV, as it suggests it’s going for more of a DCEU approach than an Arrowverse one. That could be a risky move that might split the fandom, though, so we’ll have to see how it all works out when Titans hits the internet later this year.
