For Westerosi folk, this is it – the beginning of the end.
After seven seasons of brooding drama and fantastical spectacle, HBO is ready to bid adieu to Game of Thrones – you know, before those inevitable successor series begin tumbling off the production line – with a suitably epic eighth season.
It’ll span six episodes in total, and the likes of Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Iain Glen (Ser Jorah Mormont) have already gone on record to praise Game of Thrones‘ “brilliant” finale, even if the latter warned that season 8’s swan song won’t please everyone.
Well, it certainly left Sophie Turner “very satisfied,” after the series veteran revealed to Digital Spy that she was taken aback by just how unpredictable the show’s ending really is.
For me – without giving anything away, I guess – I was satisfied with how unpredictable the show’s ending really is. People have come up with so many fan theories about how it’s going to end and who will end up where and who will end up with who. It really is so unpredictable the way that it ends up. I’m very satisfied with that and I think that the fans will be satisfied with that too.
So, assuming HBO is able to keep things under wraps until April 2019 (i.e. no episode leaks), we should be in for quite a few surprises and treats from Game of Thrones season 8 and its grand finale.
As mentioned above, it’ll run for a total of six episodes and seemingly deliver a wholly satisfying conclusion to HBO’s grand fantasy saga, so it’s small wonder why fans are looking forward to Game of Thrones season 8 with hushed excitement. April 2019 is the official ETA, and we can hardly wait.
