Smallville Star Is Down For An Animated Revival

Though we're spoiled for choice when it comes to DC TV shows nowadays, a lot of fans still miss Smallville, The CW's Superman prequel that lasted for a whopping 10 seasons from 2001-2011. There's little chance of a full-on revival of the series, but stars Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum have come up with an interesting alternative: an animated version.

The actors – who played Clark Kent and Lex Luthor, respectively, on the show – put forth the idea at Awesome Con a few months back. Now, ComicBook.com has passed on their comments to their old co-star Kristen Kreuk, who portrayed Clark’s first love, Lana Lang. The actress wasn’t aware of their proposal, but she seemed to like the idea as she said it “could be a lot of fun.”

“Yeah, absolutely. I’ve never thought about it, but that sounds like it could be a lot of fun… Michael wouldn’t want to shave his head again, I’m fairly certain. [Laughs] But yeah, that would be a lot of fun. I haven’t seen those guys in a long time.”

While we wait to see if this talk of an animated Smallville will come to anything, at least we have the actors of the show turning up in other DC TV projects to keep the flame alight. For instance, Tom Welling played a major role in Lucifer season 3, while his Lois Lane, Erica Durance, joined the cast of Supergirl this season as Kara’s mother, Alura Zor-El.

As for the other stars jumping over to the Arrowverse, Welling and Rosenbaum have both spoken about that before – the former even suggested he could take over his friend’s old role and play Lex Luthor on Supergirl. Of course, fans would love it if he reprised his part as Smallville‘s Clark instead, which was apparently discussed at some stage. Meanwhile, Justin Hartley – the show’s Oliver Queen – is up for appearing on Arrow.

In regards to an animated revival of Smallville though, tell us, would you be into seeing something like that? Sound off down below.
