Just to rub salt into the wound, season 2’s finale ended on a major cliffhanger that was fated never to be resolved. After finally getting some redemption and becoming a proper ally to Peggy, Chad Michael Murray’s Jack Thompson, a high-ranking SSR agent, was apparently assassinated by a mysterious assailant who also stole a file on Hayley Atwell’s super-spy.

DoG asked Molina to clarify what would’ve happened next and he explained that the assassination attempt on Jack (which suggests he was going to survive it) would have led the gang to London, where it would’ve been revealed – shock horror! – that Peggy’s beloved late brother Michael was actually alive and had turned to the dark side.

“If memory serves, the initial thrust was going to come from the investigation into the assassination attempt on Jack Thompson.  We were hoping (assuming we could afford it) that the story would then lead us to London, where we would learn that Peggy’s late brother Michael was not only alive and kicking, but involved in some very nefarious, super-villainous shenanigans.”

Season 2 previously introduced Michael in a flashback episode which cast him as a supportive, loving brother whose death inspired Peggy to take on the life of a secret agent in the first place. It no doubt would’ve been both thrilling and shocking to see the Carters reunite but for Peggy to discover he’d broken bad.

Of course, fans are always hoping that Agent Carter season 3 will materialize eventually if it gets picked up by another network. Molina told DoG, however, that he believes this isn’t too likely due to the poor ratings history, despite its rabid online fandom.

Ah well, looks like the show is just destined to go down as one of those series cut down too soon.
