Since James Gunn was unceremoniously given the boot from Disney and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 a week ago, there’ve been rumblings of discontent amongst the cast.
Dave Bautista has been most prominent, saying that “he was not OK” with Gunn’s treatment and that it’s “hurt Hollywood.” Glenn Close also made a veiled comment, imploring fans to have a bit more humanity in their online interactions, while folks like Pom Klementieff have kept relatively quiet. But things may have gone up a notch today, as Chris Pratt, who plays Star-Lord, protagonist and hero of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, has been tweeting Bible verses, and you don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to work out that he’s referring to Gunn’s firing.
Check them out below:

Saying that a house divided against itself cannot stand could be ominous for the future of Guardians of the Galaxy. We’re just speculating here, but it may mean that the treatment of Gunn, who appears to have been beloved by those he’s worked with, has damaged the cast’s trust in Disney and Marvel Studios. While it’s a long shot, this could also be an indication that they’re ready to walk if Disney doesn’t reinstate James Gunn in the director’s chair.
Again, though, that’s a long shot, as these actors are no doubt under contract to appear in the movie, but if Disney considers the behind the camera talent expendable, they may think twice about pissing off their stars. At minimum, the second quote seems to indicate that Pratt considers that Disney acted too quickly in firing Gunn, giving him his marching orders without allowing him to defend or explain himself to them – or even to make reparations for his past remarks on Twitter.
This could be the start of a very troubled production for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and I desperately hope the studio will reconsider their decision and realize they’ve essentially been played by far-right activists with a grudge against Gunn’s political views.
