It’s been confirmed that John Boyega will return as Finn in Star Wars: Episode IX. Seen in the gallery below, Finn’s longer hair here hints he’s finally overcome his struggle with the First Order. He seems to have become a new person, too, one fully invested in the Resistance and one who’s free to look and act as he pleases. In fact, it’s very possible that Finn’s at last found happiness and inner peace, thus he’s choosing to show it by changing his look.

Yes, it finally seems as if the former Stormtrooper may no longer be haunted by his past, as evidenced by the apparent fact that he no longer sports the short, pristine locks one would expect a faceless, uniformed soldier to have.

While it’s clear to be the case with Finn, one wonders if other Sequel Trilogy characters will have their appearances changed to reflect their new developments, too. After all, some recent leaks claimed that Daisy Ridley’s Rey will receive a new outfit unlike anything Star Wars fans have ever seen, but this has yet to be confirmed by the studio. As such, John Boyega’s photo is the first concrete evidence we have of updates to characters’ looks in the Skywalker Saga’s final installment.

Star Wars: Episode IX begins filming tomorrow and fans of that galaxy far, far away can look forward to seeing Finn’s new look on the big screen when the pic soars into theaters on December 20th, 2019.
