Avengers: Infinity War Directors Tease New Heroes Who Are Stronger Than Thor

Remember in Thor: Ragnarok when the God of Thunder kept failing to voice-activate the crashed Quinjet by referring to himself as the strongest Avenger? It was a hilarious joke at the Asgardian's expense, sure, but it might have also been a sign that there were more heroes to come who could dwarf Thor's considerable strength. At least, that's according to what Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have said.

Remember in Thor: Ragnarok when the God of Thunder kept failing to voice-activate the crashed Quinjet by referring to himself as the strongest Avenger? It was a hilarious joke at the Asgardian’s expense, sure, but it might have also been a sign that there were more heroes to come who could dwarf Thor’s considerable strength. At least, that’s according to what Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have said.

The brothers were holding a Twitter Q&A recently when they were asked who else out of the galaxy’s mightiest protectors could wield Thor’s new weapon Stormbreaker, as we know that lesser beings don’t have the strength. In answer, the Russos teased that some of the cast are actually just as strong as Thor, while other characters that are on their way could even be stronger than him.

“There are few people as strong as or stronger than Thor, and you know who some of them are.”

So, who do we already know that might be as stronger/stronger than a genuine god? Well, Groot for one, as the teenage tree wielded Strombreaker in Infinity War. Captain America also went toe-to-toe with Thanos and managed to hold the Mad Titan back, something even Thor couldn’t do. Likewise, multiple battles have shown that Hulk and Thor are evenly matched. Oh, and let’s not forget fellow Asgardian Valkyrie, who we’re pretty sure survived Thanos’ attack on the Statesman.

As for the future contenders, Captain Marvel’s the most obvious candidate, as we’ve heard a lot about how Carol Danvers will be the biggest gun we’ve yet seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Brie Larson’s even suggested she can move planets. If Thor had that ability, the ending of Ragnarok would have been very different (too soon? Yeah, probably too soon).

Regardless, it should be fun to see the God of Thunder and Captain Marvel join forces, along with the rest of the remaining heroes, of course, when Avengers 4 arrives next May.
