Ryan Reynolds Was Willing To Defend This One Deadpool 2 Gag From The MPAA

Per The Hollywood Reporter, lead star Ryan Reynolds was willing to battle the MPAA over the use of Deadpool 2's baby legs gag.

It’s arguably the funniest scene in the entire movie; Wade Wilson, still recovering from his close brush with death, confronts Cable while sitting comfortably in Blind Al’s humble abode.

There’s a twist, of course, as Wade’s baby legs are still in the process of regenerating after he was torn apart (quite literally, we might add) by the super-sized Juggernaut. And so, a dressed-down Deadpool hobbles up to Nathan Summers, and it’s at this point that the audience is in stitches as a two-foot Wade Wilson begins to take his first steps.

All of this was made possible by a bout of cutting-edge CGI, though Ryan Reynolds himself recently admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that he was willing to defend Deadpool 2‘s funniest scene from the Motion Picture Association of America should the Powers That Be decide that Reynolds and the team took it too far when they included a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot of Baby Wade shifting his legs a la Basic Instinct and, ahem, exposing himself to a visibly disturbed Cable.

I didn’t know if I was going to have to go down and arbitrate with the MPAA and explain that’s my tiny dick and balls, not CGI. But it wasn’t a problem.

THR’s interview comes just as Deadpool 2 prepares for its home video release, which comes packing a range of extras and bonus features for the Merc’s second coming – the Super Duper Cut, for instance, even includes 15 minutes of extra footage.

However, one thing that won’t see the light of day – not now, and perhaps not ever – is Deadpool 2‘s Disney gag, which is seemingly too rude to reveal, as Reynolds tells THR:

I think most filmmakers would say, ‘Find your favorite moment in a movie and cut it out, because that’s what’s going to happen anyway.’ It was one of my favorite things in the movie, and one of the earliest things I planted my flag on and said ‘I want to keep this joke.’ And then it was one of the first things I was forced to remove.

You like to think that you get to work with complete autonomy, but at the same time, you don’t. You want to be collaborative. And as much as we laugh at Fox and poke fun at Fox, [vice chairwoman] Emma Watts has been a partner who has been in lockstep with everything we’ve done, every step of the way, all the way back to the first film. They’ve allowed us do stuff that I don’t think any other studio would allow us to do. So, conceding on this one thing was not the end of the world for me. We had a lot of other great, great moments in the movie.

Deadpool 2 slices and dices its way onto Blu-ray and DVD on August 21st (pre-order here).
