Arrow Season 7 Is Already Pushing The CW’s Censorship Limits

Already, we've been given hints as to how no-nonsense the seventh season of Arrow will be, with previous reports saying that it'll take the series back to its roots, and how this'll be the darkest year since the first. Hey, after seeing the brutal trailer that debuted last month at San Diego Comic-Con, I'm most definitely a believer.

If that weren’t enough, producer/director/stunt coordinator James Bamford has given us all more reason to tune in, especially after saying how this season will push the boundaries of what can and cannot air on The CW while chatting with Newsarama:

“[Showrunner] Beth [Schwartz] and I had a phone call with BNSP, which is our censors… a very lengthy phone call about a particular scene that we never had before. So we are really trying to push the limits on the show in the gritty factor. We are trying to go as far as you can go within the confines of our network and what is expected of us and what we can and can’t do. We are not on Netflix so we will never be able to X, Y, and Z, but we are damn sure going to try.”

In recent months, we’d heard about how Oliver Queen will do something reprehensible while in prison, a promise made by lead actor Stephen Amell that echoes in my mind whenever reading quotes such as this. My best guess is that Ollie’s time in the clink will harden him even more, and the Green Arrow we eventually see on the outside won’t necessarily be the the same as the one who went in.

Like I was getting at, the Emerald Archer will logically be a free man at some point because, don’t forget, we have the big crossover introducing Ruby Rose as Batwoman with which to deal in December. Believe me, there’s no way Amell’s missing out on that one.

Arrow returns for its seventh season on Monday, October 15 on The CW.
