Ryanair passenger expects concern from airline after he gets partially sucked out of broken window. But they allegedly only want one thing from him

It's all the airline apparently cares about.

A Ryanair passenger was partially sucked out of a Boeing 737 after the airline took off from an airport in Thessaloniki, Greece. Ljubisa Karovic, 61, now says his wife, Svetlana Grković, had to pull him back into the aircraft. As he recovers from severe injuries, he claims the only thing the airline has done is contact his son to ask whether he is interested in booking another flight.

According to The Independent, a window on the aircraft broke at 20,000 feet on July 10 while the flight was en route to Memmingen, near Munich, Germany. Grković said that as the aircraft began pulling her husband toward the broken window and she did everything she could to hold onto him, Karovic drifted in and out of consciousness. She says they consider themselves fortunate that he survived.

Ryanair is an LCC. In the aviation industry, that stands for Low-Cost Carrier, a business model that has developed its own undesirable reputation in aviation. Unlike many full-service airlines, low-cost carriers typically charge extra for services such as meals, premium seating, and even the ability to choose seats together.

In fact, Karovic and Grković reportedly were not seated next to each other. According to the Daily Mail, Grković was seated in 14C, three rows behind her husband, who was sitting in an aisle seat. The airline reportedly wanted an additional €30 ($34) for the married couple to sit together, but they declined the extra charge.

The airline allegedly hasn’t even extended an apology or the bare minimum concern

She told the publication that from her seat she saw her husband being pulled toward the broken window. Without thinking twice, she jumped to her feet, ran to him, and pulled him back into the aircraft. She also claimed that the cabin crew appeared frightened and did not help either of them during the ordeal.

Karovic is now recovering while wearing a neck brace, which he is expected to need for six weeks. The family says they are still waiting to hear directly from the airline. Reportedly, Karovic said, “All we’ve had is emails to my son, who booked our flights, asking if we want to rebook and asking how I was. But nobody from the company has contacted me directly, not even a phone call to show any concern.”

Despite the family’s claims, Ryanair Group Chief Financial Officer Neil Sorahan told the media, “Our customer care team have actively been in touch with the family since the incident.” Sorahan continued, “Our crew did a phenomenal job and got the aircraft back to Thessaloniki. Everyone, bar none, walked off the aircraft. It was a great job done by the cabin crew and the pilots.”

His life was turned upside down

Karovic was reportedly met by medical personnel and emergency responders after the plane made an emergency landing back in Thessaloniki. Authorities are now investigating the incident. Ryanair has cited that ongoing investigation as the reason it will not comment further until the inquiry has concluded.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Karovic said, “This incident has completely turned my life upside down. I fear that I’ll never be able to live and work the way I used to. I’m not able to go anywhere at the moment, and the thought of getting on a plane absolutely terrifies me. I want to recover and overcome this, because I once led a very happy and beautiful life, but I know that it’s going to take me a long time.”
